Week 12 – Harry

During week 12 we were pretty much finalizing everything on the website as well as it’s overall design; Rosie spent much of the week tidying-up the text as well as embedding videos and making everything else look nice and cohesive. On the weekend of week 12, we filming one of our last bits in the interview with Trash Palace (a short snippet is in the video attached) as well as arranging extra content in outstanding areas of the website. We also gave our rough-cut presentation on the Wednesday of week 12; although our project was well on the way to being finished by that stage it was still a good opportunity to get some final advice from our tutors.

Week 12 – Rose

This week was spent fixing up the aesthetics on the website, ensuring hyperlinks were correct and opening in new windows. All of the final content is currently being uploaded, which includes not only video, but audio.

I wound up choosing the Georgia default font scheme as it came with a few fonts that made the headings look rather grungy, which suited our topic and its default font for the main content looked nicer than Times and was easier to read. Hopefully the font size isn’t too small when viewing on a bigger computer (I developed the website using my laptop, which it looks great on). Harry and Anna both tested the website on their laptops and computers and gave me the all clear for everything functioning the way it should be.

I had trouble trying to set up the Lightbox for our Flickr, however, I figured out a nifty way to include a snippet of our Flickr galleries, by the use of a Flickr Slideshow. This came in handy as I was able to scatter our galleries, aka “sets” into specific areas that related to the photographs in the website. It also saved a heck of a lot of time that would have been wasted if I had hand coded a gallery, which is what I did at the beginning. I also found that embedding all these social media accounts was quite easy to do and Dreamweaver did not argue with me once.

I also wound up creating our own Social Media Icons as I could not find any on the web that really matched the aesthetics on our website, social media pages and our development blog. It took a bit longer than expected to create, but I think it has been worth it, as the main page does look pretty great.

Overall, I’m really pleased with our project and how smoothly it has run over the semester. The content has substance and we hope our viewers enjoy navigating their way through it and learn a few new things about the Melbourne Music Community along the way.

Week 12 – Anna

This week we had our presentation in class, where we explained and presented our documentary in order to get some feedback from the class, and/or our tutors. Feedback mainly consisted of what we know we have to do, and that is working on the formatting of the website (i.e. fixing the font and colour schemes).

We now have to make some final decisions about the appearance and aesthetics. We also need to edit and upload our final content and then we’ll be done. Our final interviews are coming up over the weekend. We’re also planning to do our self reflections at the end of this week so we can focus on the project itself rather than the individual aspects.

When we have the final project completed, we will try to spam it on the social media platforms that we’re using – even Facebook, regardless of its failure thus far.

Week 11 – Rose

Over the past week Harry took some great photographs of some buskers we’ve been trying to locate all semester. These were uploaded to our Flickr and Instagram account.

The other day I had a lightbulb moment with the location photographs Harry took. I decided to create a map with GoogleMaps where pins of the buskers we’ve captured have been inserted so viewers can see where they perform regularly.

The rest of the week will be spent tidying up the website, ensuring links are all correct and tidying up the fonts as well as adding in the rest of the content.

Week 11 – Anna

Week 11 was a bit of a blur for me personally because I had to take a personal week off. During this time, my group was kind enough and understanding to go ahead with starting the presentation, writing up the powerpoint and keeping me updated on what they have done. The most I did this week was re-edit Dan Webb’s videos and re-upload them, as well as linking Rosemary to David Lambie’s performance of acoustic bass live and freestyled for the profile section on our website. When I got back from my hiatus, I read what we had for the presentation, decided which sections I wanted to do and contributed to the powerpoint so we are prepared to give the presenation in Week 12. Our last minute interviews are still coming in week 12, which will require me to be quick with editing so we can work on formatting the website in our last week of this project.

Week 9 & 10 – Anna

Over these couple of weeks we saw massive progress with Instagram account thanks to Rosemary who’s been uploading our pictures of buskers & hashtagging to try get an audience going. With our content, David Lambie, a bass busker, was kind enough to send in his text based interview for us to use in various sections in our website. An audio interview with Marcus Hernan has been set up to have by week 12, as well as an video interview with David & Hamish of Trash Palace on Sunday in week 12. The next step will be to add the final content and edit the website in order for it to all be finished. Little details like hyperlinking the videos on youtube etc needs to be done as well, which I’ll handle as I edit and upload the videos. In week 12, we’re expected to do a presentation on what we have so far and hopefully getting some feedback from the class – whether good or bad. We also need to think about organising when to do our self reflections in case I need to lend my camera to the others in my group.

Week 11 – Harry

The project has continued nicely over the past week and a number of important things have been put in place or planned since our most recent blog entries. Annie managed to get an interview with a busker/musician/friend, David Lambie, who provided some good answers for us to use as both video content for the documentary and content for a website profile. Rosie has continued to put together the website nicely, as a couple of the pages are taking shape, the ‘Connect’ page is looking particularly good at this point.
As for myself I will be continuing to take photos this week of various buskers for site content as well as possibly to use in a montage in the documentary.
They’ll be useful for the ‘Learn’ section of the site and ill look to include google maps cutouts of their locations for additional content and sources.
Given we only have 4 interviewees at this point ill also look to ask various buskers if they’d be happy to record audio interviews for the website.
